This morning, I spotted the following bumpersticker in the parking lot at work:

I Believe in the Separation of
Church and Hate

Mr. Dobson should take this advice. "In the comments aired Tuesday, Dobson said Obama should not be referencing antiquated dietary codes and passages from the Old Testament that are no longer relevant to the teachings of the New Testament," which is odd coming from a man who built his celebrity on the foundation of Leviticus 18:22.

Bonus: The classic joke letter to Dr. Laura:
Dr Laura and Leviticus )

...and, like her, I wonder which one (or two) I missed. Go me!

p.s. We haven't watched South Park in, like, forever, but happened to catch the "Christian Rock Hard" episode last night. Matt & Trey can still bring it! The episode was pretty damn insightful and funny! Priceless exchange:

Kyle: You don't even know anything about Christianity.
Cartman: I know enough to exploit it.

On the same day that [info]movies_michelle noted that the Washington House passes gay rights bill, I give you:

Maryland Court Says State Cannot Bar Same-Sex Couples from Marriage Protections

and

Religious Leaders to Convene in Annapolis to Oppose Anti-Gay Constitutional Amendment.
"The signatories represent varied denominations and faiths from across the state, including American Baptist, United Methodist, Roman Catholic, Unity Fellowship, Evangelical Lutheran, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Quaker and Unitarian Universalist, as well as Conservative, Reform and Reconstructionist Judaism."

I don't know if our parish will be represented in Annapolis, but I will ask around this Sunday.

For the record: The Maryland Catholic Conference (a lobbying group) sent a letter to all parishes in Maryland outlining its effort to advocate marriage as a union between one man and one woman. This letter was accompanied by a note asking the parishes to place copies of the "Preserving Marriage" letter in their weekly bulletins. Our Father Nick and 27 other parish priests declined to provide this letter to their congregants and sent a joint letter to the MCC declaring their objection to its effort. The MCC responded with a condescending letter (WWJD?), so I guess the defiant parishes are now on some sort of "watch list." Meanwhile, Father Nick has re-committed to raising awareness about this intolerance and other divisive efforts within the Church.

In short: Please don't confuse my faith with the MCC's politics.
